What is WMC?

The Women's Media Centre of Cambodia (WMC) is Cambodia's premier non-governmental, non-profit media organization. WMC delivers innovative and informative programs on a diverse range of issues raising awareness about affecting contemporary Cambodia. Though open to all audiences, WMC's programs have a special focus on the roles and rights of Cambodian women. TOP

No. WMC is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit media organization that has a special focus on the roles and rights of Cambodian women, working for the development of Cambodia. TOP

When was WMC founded?

WMC was founded on 1 January 1995. It was registered at the Ministry of Interior, as a Cambodian non-governmental organization on 25 May 2001.

WMC was born from a movement to increase the participation of women in the democratic process during the UN-sponsored elections in 1993. Since its inception in 1995, WMC has produced high quality, innovative radio, television and video productions designed to educate and inform Cambodians on a wide range of issues affecting women's rights and human rights. Issues include but are not limited to HIV/AIDS, human trafficking, elections, violence against women, health, education, decentralization, good governance, the environment, and poverty.

In 1999, WMC launched its own radio station, FM 102, which has become one of the nation's leading radio stations, with 83.6% of the 2005 national survey respondents, including 77% of all youth respondents, stating they have listened to FM 102. In addition, an outstanding 76.7% of respondents stated that FM1 02 programs had positively influenced their attitude and behavior. For more information, please the visit the "WMC at a Glance" page. Who founded WMC?

Five women: Ms. Yim Cahn Davy, Ms. Nuth Rasy, Ms. Chea Sundaneth, Ms. Som Khemra and Ms. Tive Sarayeth. At present, only two among the five founders are working for WMC. TOP
